First Phase of Census to Begin April 1, 2027; RGI Confirms Earliest Data Availability

According to the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, the number of villages in the country has decreased by more than 1,000 since the 2011 Census. This finding is part of the country’s ongoing efforts to update and analyze demographic data.

The decline in the number of villages may be attributed to several factors, including urbanization, where rural areas are absorbed into urban environments, as well as the consolidation of smaller villages into larger ones due to various administrative or economic reasons.

The Census, which is conducted every ten years, serves as a critical tool for policy-making and resource allocation, impacting various sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure development. The 2021 Census was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is expected to provide further insights into demographic changes, including shifts in population distribution and socio-economic patterns across the country.

As India continues to modernize and urbanize, understanding these trends will be essential for planning and development initiatives.
