High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami Presented with the Freedom of the City of London

Vikram Doraiswami, Indias High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, characterized his tenure in London as a significant period that has greatly enhanced the bilateral relationship between India and the UK. He noted that one of the key accomplishments during this time has been the advancement towards concluding the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

The FTA aims to deepen economic ties by eliminating tariffs, enhancing market access, and fostering investments across a range of sectors, including technology, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. Negotiations have been ongoing since 2021, and both nations are optimistic about the mutual benefits that a finalized agreement could bring.

Doraiswami also highlighted the importance of collaboration on global challenges such as climate change, security, and public health. This period has seen increased cultural exchanges and a growing number of partnerships in education and research, contributing to strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
