High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami Receives Freedom of the City of London
Vikram Doraiswami, the Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, has characterized his tenure in London as a pivotal phase for the bilateral relationship between India and the U.K. He emphasized the significance of recent developments, including the ongoing negotiations surrounding the India-U.K. Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
The FTA aims to strengthen economic ties by reducing trade barriers, thus facilitating a potential increase in bilateral trade, which was valued at £24 billion (approximately $33 billion) in 2021. As both nations work towards finalizing the agreement, they are focusing on key sectors such as technology, healthcare, and renewable energy, which could yield mutual benefits.
Doraiswamis tenure has also seen enhanced collaboration in areas such as defense, education, and climate change, further solidifying the strategic partnership between the two countries. This period of diplomatic engagement is expected to pave the way for deeper economic ties and shared initiatives in various sectors.
