Independent Groups Gain Ground Against Alliances in Assam Conflict
Several political parties in India have identified themselves as “non-aligned” entities. These parties include the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), the United Peoples Party Liberation (UPPL), and the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).
The AIUDF, based primarily in Assam, focuses on the rights and welfare of the states minority communities and has been an influential player in regional politics. The United Peoples Party Liberation, active in Assam as well, emphasizes indigenous rights and has positioned itself as a voice for the local populace in the face of larger national parties. Meanwhile, the All India Trinamool Congress, founded by Mamata Banerjee, is a prominent party in West Bengal, known for its strong opposition to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its advocacy for social welfare programs.
These parties choose to maintain a non-aligned stance, avoiding formal ties with major political alliances, which reflects their unique regional interests and priorities in the complex Indian political landscape.
