India Sets Target for 60% Non-Fossil Fuel Power Generation by 2035
A new initiative has been announced with the goal of decreasing greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 47% per unit of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Additionally, the plan targets the enhancement of the countrys carbon sink, aiming for a reduction of 3.5 billion to 4 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.
This initiative reflects broader global efforts to curb climate change and align with international agreements such as the Paris Accord, which seeks to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius. The proposed measures may include investments in renewable energy, improvements in energy efficiency, and enhanced practices in forestry and land management to capture and store carbon emissions effectively.
The significance of these targets underscores the commitment to sustainable development while supporting economic growth, as it attempts to balance environmental responsibilities with economic progress. Further details on implementation strategies and timelines for achieving these targets are expected to be released in the coming months.
