Indian Navy Initiates Operation Urja Suraksha to Ensure Energy Security in the Strait of Hormuz

The Indian Navy has successfully identified and is actively monitoring all vessels transporting Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and crude oil destined for India to ensure safe passage through maritime routes. As part of its protective measures, the Navy has deployed warships to provide close escort and navigational assistance to these ships.

To date, the Navy has escorted four LPG carriers and one crude oil tanker as part of this initiative. The measures aim to enhance the security of maritime shipping lanes, particularly in areas that may experience increased tension or piracy risks.

This initiative underscores the Navys commitment to safeguarding Indias energy supply and maintaining the integrity of crucial shipping routes. The shipping industry plays a vital role in Indias economy, with a significant percentage of its oil and gas supplies being imported. The Indian Navys actions reflect a proactive approach to ensuring that vital resources reach their destinations safely and efficiently.
