Israel Begins Supplying Light Machine Guns to India as Part of Make In India Initiative

Israel has delivered the first batch of light machine guns to India as part of the countrys “Make In India” initiative. This collaboration emphasizes Indias efforts to enhance its domestic defense manufacturing capabilities.
The delivery is part of a broader defense cooperation agreement between Israel and India, which aims to strengthen the military capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces. The light machine guns, designed for infantry use, are intended to improve operational effectiveness and provide the troops with advanced weaponry systems.
The “Make In India” scheme, launched in 2014, encourages foreign companies to manufacture their products within the country and aims to make India a global manufacturing hub. This initiative is part of India’s broader strategy to reduce reliance on imports for defense equipment and to promote self-reliance in the defense sector.
India and Israel have a long-standing defense relationship, characterized by various joint projects and technology transfers. The latest delivery not only marks a significant development in this partnership but also aligns with Indias strategic aim of modernizing its military infrastructure amidst changing security dynamics in the region.
