Jammu University Proposes Removal of Jinnah and Iqbal from Curriculum; NC and PDP Express Opposition

Protests were held by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday, calling for the removal of a chapter on Muhammad Ali Jinnah from the university syllabus. In response to these demands, the university’s Departmental Affairs Committee (DAC) convened a meeting on March 22 to discuss the concerns raised regarding the course content.

The ABVP, a student organization affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has been vocal about their stance, citing Jinnahs controversial legacy as a reason for their call to action. The DAC’s meeting aims to address the potential implications of the syllabus, especially considering Jinnahs role as the founder of Pakistan and the historical tensions surrounding his political decisions.

This situation reflects ongoing debates in educational institutions over curriculum content and the representation of historical figures. The outcomes of the DAC meeting may influence future syllabi and highlight the intersection of education and political beliefs in university settings. Further details regarding the committees decisions and any proposed changes to the curriculum are expected to be released in the near future.
