Karnataka SC/ST Commission Engages in Discussions on Internal Reservation Issues

The Karnataka State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes recently convened discussions to address the ongoing confusion regarding internal reservation policies within the Scheduled Castes community. The deliberations also touched upon the governments decision to reduce the overall reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in recruitment for 56,432 positions from 56% to 50%.

Attendees at the meeting included senior government officials, former Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) members, and representatives from various community organizations. The current policy adjustments have raised concerns about the implications for equitable representation in government employment.

Karnataka currently has a significant population of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and the state government’s reservation policies aim to ensure their adequate representation in public sector jobs. The recent changes have sparked discussions regarding their potential effects on opportunities for these communities.

The commission plans to gather further feedback from stakeholders before finalizing recommendations, ensuring that the voices of affected communities are considered in any policy formulation moving forward.
