Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: Congress Releases Initial List of 55 Candidates, Decision Pending on MPs Interested in Contesting
K.C. Venugopal, the General Secretary of the Congress party, has indicated that a decision regarding the aspirations of certain Members of Parliament (MPs) to contest in upcoming elections will be made at a later date. Currently, the party has not officially announced candidates for the Kannur and Konni constituencies, for which MP K. Sudhakaran and MP Adoor Prakash have expressed their interest, respectively.
The preliminary list of candidates released by the Congress party includes 20 incumbent Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), reflecting the partys strategy to retain experienced politicians in key positions. As the state gears up for elections, the Congress party is expected to finalize its candidate list in the coming weeks, amidst discussions and negotiations within its ranks.
As political dynamics evolve, it remains critical for the party to evaluate the requests of its MPs while balancing the broader electoral strategy across various constituencies, including those in Kerala where the party aims to strengthen its foothold.
