Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: Manjeswaram Poised for a Competitive Race as Major Candidates Emerge
In the upcoming elections, the United Democratic Front (UDF) has nominated sitting MLA A.K.M. Ashraf from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) to contest for his seat. Meanwhile, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has chosen former BJP State president K. Surendran to run again. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has put forward K.R. Jayanandan, a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretariat, as their candidate.
These nominations are part of the larger electoral strategy as the various political alliances prepare for the upcoming elections. The UDF, traditionally a coalition of several parties including the IUML and the Congress, aims to retain its influence in the region, leveraging Ashrafs incumbency. The NDA, consisting of the BJP and its allies, is looking to capitalize on Surendrans previous experience and leadership within the party to strengthen its position. The LDF, which has been in power in the state, is banking on Jayanandan’s local political experience and party loyalty to secure a victory.
As the election date approaches, campaigning strategies and voter outreach efforts from each of these candidates and their respective parties are expected to intensify. This electoral battle will be closely monitored, as it could impact the political landscape of the region for years to come.
