Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: Pathanamthitta Reports Over 96% Turnout for Home Voting
In a recent election held in the district, a significant turnout was observed among eligible voters aged 85 and older. Out of a total of 9,341 registered voters in this age category, 9,022 participated in the voting process. This resulted in an impressive voter turnout rate of 96.58%.
The high turnout reflects the engagement and commitment of senior citizens to participate in the democratic process, despite potential challenges they may face. Election officials noted that this demographics participation is crucial as it can impact decisions on issues that directly affect them, such as healthcare, social security, and community services.
Efforts to enhance accessibility, including providing transportation and assistance at polling places, may have contributed to the high level of participation in this age group. This turnout statistic could serve as a model for future elections as communities strive to encourage voter participation among other demographics.
