Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: Ten of the Thirteen Incumbent MLAs in Kozhikode Seek Re-election; CPI(M) Does Not Field Female Candidate

Following the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections, the political landscape in Kozhikode is characterized by the presence of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF). The LDF secured the majority in the region, with a total of 11 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) elected to represent Kozhikode. In contrast, the UDF managed to secure representation through two elected MLAs.

This electoral outcome is part of a broader political pattern in Kerala, where the LDF, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has maintained a significant influence in the state governance, promoting various developmental and welfare initiatives. The UDF, primarily composed of Congress and several other parties, has historically been a strong political force in the state as well.

The results in Kozhikode reflects the electoral trends and alliances that have shaped Keralas political fabric, highlighting the ongoing rivalry between these two major coalitions. Additionally, the election results are indicative of the shifting dynamics among the electorate, with a diverse set of issues influencing voter preferences in the region.
