Kozhikode Constituency: 10 of 13 Incumbent MLAs to Seek Reelection in Kerala Assembly Elections 2026; CPI(M) Will Not Field Woman Candidate

Following the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) secured a total of 11 MLAs in Kozhikode, while the United Democratic Front (UDF) managed to elect two representatives in the region.

The LDF, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), maintains a significant presence in Kozhikode, reflecting its broader success in the state elections where it retained power for a second consecutive term under the leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The UDF, comprised mainly of the Indian National Congress and its allies, has seen a reduction in representation in this constituency compared to previous elections.

In Kerala, the political landscape is characterized by a strong rivalry between the LDF and UDF, with each coalition holding substantial influence in different regions of the state. Kozhikode has historically been a critical battleground for both fronts, making the results of the 2021 elections particularly noteworthy in terms of shifting political dynamics in the area.
