KRESMA Reports Karnatakas Gruha Jyothi Scheme Reduces Impact of PMs Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

Karnataka is experiencing a notable disparity in the adoption of rooftop solar systems, with approximately 23,900 households participating in the Surya Ghar Yojana. In contrast, Gujarat has demonstrated a significantly higher uptake, reporting over 570,000 homes equipped with rooftop solar installations.

The Surya Ghar Yojana is an initiative designed to promote the use of solar energy among residents in Karnataka, aimed at increasing renewable energy sources and reducing dependence on conventional power. However, despite the programs potential benefits, adoption rates in Karnataka remain considerably lower compared to other states.

Gujarats success in this area can be attributed to various factors, including supportive government policies, incentives for solar adoption, and aggressive awareness campaigns promoting renewable energy. Additionally, Karnataka has been facing challenges with policy implementation and infrastructure, which may hinder the expansion of solar energy projects.

As the demand for sustainable energy solutions grows, both states are critical to the overall shift toward renewable energy in India. The Indian governments target to achieve 450 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 further underscores the importance of boosting solar power adoption across the country.
