Launch Indigenous Web Browser for Opportunity to Win Cash Prizes
The Indian government has unveiled a prize pool of ₹3.4 crore aimed at incentivizing developers to design and implement an indigenous web browser that incorporates trust in the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA). The CCA is responsible for verifying digital signatures within the country, ensuring secure electronic transactions and digital communication.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote homegrown technological solutions and enhance cybersecurity standards in the digital ecosystem. By supporting the development of a browser that aligns with national security protocols, the government aims to bolster user trust and encourage the adoption of secure digital practices in India.
Eligible developers are encouraged to submit their proposals, and the initiative outlines specific criteria that the browser must meet, including security features, user-friendly design, and compliance with national regulations governing digital signatures. This move reflects the increasing importance of digital infrastructure in India, as internet usage continues to rise in both urban and rural areas.
The timeline for the submission of proposals and the detailed guidelines for participation will be made available by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in the upcoming weeks.
