Modi Critiques Trinamool Congress Over Gherao of Judicial Officers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized that states demonstrating effective population control measures will not experience a reduction in their legislative assembly seats during the forthcoming delimitation process.

This statement aligns with the ongoing discussions regarding the allocation of parliamentary and state assembly constituencies, a process that takes into account population figures. The Prime Ministers remarks highlight the governments intention to reward states that implement successful family planning initiatives.

Delimitation, which refers to the redrawing of boundaries for electoral constituencies based on population data, is a periodic exercise conducted in India to ensure fair representation. The last delimitation exercise for parliamentary constituencies was carried out in 2008, based on the 2001 census, while states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra have been actively working on population stabilization.

Modis assertion may reinforce efforts toward incentivizing states to adopt progressive population policies, particularly as India approaches its next census in 2024, the results of which will significantly influence the next delimitation process.
