Nagaland Assembly Sends FNTA Bill Back to Government for Review
Parliamentary Affairs Minister KG Kenye addressed the legislative assembly, noting that the Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union (ENLU) has raised concerns regarding particular provisions absent from a recently proposed Bill. This Bill is compared against the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on February 5 in New Delhi, which involved discussions among representatives from the central government, the state government, and the Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation (ENPO).
The MoA aimed to address longstanding issues in the region, promoting development and a voice for Eastern Nagaland, which has historically sought greater representation and recognition within the states governance framework. Kenyes comments underscore ongoing discussions about ensuring the legislative measures align with the commitments outlined in the MoA. Further deliberations in the House are expected as lawmakers consider the implications of the ENLUs letter and the desired amendments to the Bill.
