Navy Receives Three Indigenous Warships from GRSE, Supporting Self-Reliance Initiative

The Indian Navy has commissioned three indigenous warships, namely INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray, in a ceremony held on March 30, 2026. These vessels, built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata, represent a significant advancement in the nation’s maritime capabilities and self-reliance within the defense sector.

The commissioning of these warships highlights Indias ongoing effort to enhance its naval strength through indigenous design and production. INS Dunagiri is a guided-missile destroyer, while INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray are advanced survey ships intended to improve the Navys operational readiness and capability to conduct maritime surveillance.

The addition of these ships is part of a broader initiative to modernize the Indian Navy, ensuring that it remains equipped to tackle various maritime challenges in a changing geopolitical landscape. With the government emphasizing the Make in India initiative, the successful launch of these warships underscores the commitment to bolstering domestic defense manufacturing and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers.

The Indian Navy continues to invest in modern technology and infrastructure, aiming to maintain strategic naval capabilities in the Indian Ocean region and beyond.
