Parliament Committee Advocates for Preservation of British-Era Heritage Sites Outside ASI Jurisdiction
The committee has advised the Ministry of Culture to compile a comprehensive inventory of non-Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) heritage structures that are currently at risk. This effort will be carried out in collaboration with state governments to ensure effective assessment and protection. Furthermore, the committee underscores the importance of safeguarding architectural heritage as part of a proposed new infrastructure scheme, which will specifically focus on structures and facades that are between 100 to 200 years old.
In light of the growing concerns over the preservation of historical buildings amidst modernization and development, this recommendation reflects a broader initiative to protect Indias architectural legacy. The inventory aims to identify and prioritize structures that may be vulnerable to neglect or demolition. The proposed infrastructure scheme is expected to incorporate guidelines and measures to maintain the integrity of these heritage sites while accommodating urban development needs. Such initiatives are crucial for maintaining cultural identity and promoting tourism while safeguarding valuable historical assets.
