Parliamentary Panel Urges Government to Conduct Thorough Review of Maintenance Standards at UNESCO Sites
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has been allocated ₹1,235.78 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27, representing approximately 36.17% of the total budget for the Ministry of Culture. This significant funding aims to support various initiatives, including heritage conservation, archaeological research, and the promotion of cultural tourism in India.
The increased allocation reflects the governments commitment to preserving the countrys rich historical legacy and enhancing public access to its cultural heritage. Additionally, this funding is expected to facilitate the ongoing restoration of historical sites and support new excavation projects that contribute to Indias understanding of its ancient civilizations. The ASI has previously managed numerous projects that have uncovered valuable artifacts and played a crucial role in maintaining UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
