Second Edition of IOS SAGAR Aims to Enhance Maritime Cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region

The Indian Navy has initiated a unique operational engagement program known as IOS SAGAR, aimed at fostering interoperability and cooperation among naval forces from friendly nations. This program allows naval personnel from partner countries to train and participate in joint maritime operations aboard Indian Naval vessels.

The IOS SAGAR initiative is part of Indias broader strategy to enhance maritime security and strengthen diplomatic ties with neighboring countries through naval collaboration. By facilitating hands-on training and real-time engagement, the program not only enhances operational readiness but also promotes mutual understanding and camaraderie among the participating navies.

This initiative aligns with India’s commitment to maintaining a stable maritime environment in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and underscores the importance of collective security in addressing regional challenges. As part of this program, participating naval personnel engage in various exercises that include navigation, communication drills, and other operational tasks designed to improve cooperative capabilities.

The Indian Navys IOS SAGAR program represents an important step in strengthening defense relations and supporting peace and security in the IOR, reflecting Indias role as a responsible maritime power.
