Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026: Established Rivals Seek to Regain Influence in Southern Districts

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is currently encountering significant challenges from two prominent figures: former coordinator O. Panneerselvam and former interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala. O. Panneerselvam, who has aligned himself with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has conducted 40 political meetings across southern Tamil Nadu, seeking to bolster his influence and support within the region.

Meanwhile, V.K. Sasikala, now leading the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AIPTMMK), is set to embark on her own political tour, which begins today. Sasikalas return to the political arena marks a significant development, as she aims to rally support for her party and challenge the AIADMKs standing in the state.

This internal strife comes as both figures, who were once key members of the AIADMK, have shifted their loyalties to opposing factions, signaling a potential reconfiguration of political alliances in Tamil Nadu ahead of future elections. The evolving dynamics within the AIADMK may significantly impact its strategies and voter support as the state prepares for the challenges ahead.
