Wildlife Experts and Forest Officials Evaluate Elephant Corridor Along Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway

A recent review was conducted on the expressway project that traverses the Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Chittoor District. This review involved a team assessing the mitigation measures proposed by the Forest Department, which have received approval from the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL).

The expressway is expected to enhance connectivity in the region, facilitating travel and trade. However, there are concerns regarding its impact on local wildlife and habitats. The proposed mitigation measures aim to minimize environmental disruption by incorporating wildlife corridors, underpasses, and other strategies designed to promote safe passage for animals.

The Standing Committee of the NBWL plays a crucial role in overseeing wildlife conservation efforts in India. Their approval indicates that the proposed measures have been deemed sufficient to address the environmental challenges presented by the construction and operation of the expressway. Further monitoring and evaluations will likely be carried out to ensure compliance with wildlife protection protocols throughout the lifespan of the project.
