1.24 Million Devotees Donate Hair at Tirumala Temple Over 27-Day Period

Between May 1 and May 27, a total of 1,243,063 devotees participated in the ritual of offering their hair, marking a notable increase compared to previous years. In May 2024, the number of hair donations was recorded at 1,065,729, while in May 2025, the figure stood at 1,018,370.

This uptick in participation highlights a growing trend in spiritual practices among devotees, many of whom take part in this ritual as an expression of devotion and gratitude. These offerings are often made at prominent temples, where the collected hair is typically used for various purposes, including making wigs for individuals undergoing medical treatments or other charitable causes.

Temples have reported that the increased number of participants this year may be attributed to enhanced awareness campaigns and the introduction of special rituals and events during the month of May. As a result, this year has seen record-breaking engagement from the community, reflecting the enduring cultural significance of hair offerings in many religious traditions.
