17-Year-Old Uses AI and Game Theory to Propose Collaborative Solutions for Arctic Ice Preservation; Recognized as a Finalist in US Regeneron STS

Ryka Chopra, a 17-year-old senior at Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, California, has been named one of the 40 finalists for the 2026 Regeneron Science Talent Search. Her groundbreaking project employs a combination of graph theory, game theory, and reinforcement learning to analyze how nations can collaborate effectively to mitigate Arctic ice loss.

Chopras research involved simulating interactions among 25 nations and regions that are impacted by changes in the Arctic. The study revealed that implementing suitable incentives can promote international cooperation in conservation efforts while taking into account each countrys economic interests.

The Regeneron Science Talent Search is a prestigious national competition that recognizes the nations top high school scientists.
