This years 80th Independence Day celebrations in India will feature a historic first as the national song “Vande Mataram” is set to be sung from the ramparts of the Red Fort in New Delhi. This event highlights the songs significance in Indias freedom struggle and will be part of the broader festivities scheduled to take place on August 15, 2023.

In a statement, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane noted that the celebrations will also commemorate 150 years since the songs original composition. “Vande Mataram” was penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in the late 19th century and became a symbol of the Indian independence movement, calling for unity and resistance against colonial rule.

The Indian government has also announced that the theme of this years festivities will focus on Youth Power, emphasizing the role of young people in shaping the future of the nation. This initiative aligns with the vision for Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, marking 100 years of independence.

Looking ahead, officials have also announced plans for the 2026 Independence Day celebrations, which will feature events centered around both “150 Years of Vande Mataram” and “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047,” underlining the stability and growth of the nation.

As part of ongoing discussions in Parliament, the Congress party has set forth three non-negotiable demands, emphasizing the importance of engaging youth in governance and policy-making, which they believe is crucial for the countrys advancement.
