PM Discusses Safe Passage through Strait of Hormuz with UAE President

In a recent telephone conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India spoke with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During the discussion, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the critical importance of ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway that facilitates a significant portion of the worlds oil and gas trade.

The Strait of Hormuz, located between Oman and Iran, is a vital corridor for the transit of energy supplies, with approximately one-fifth of the global oil supply passing through it. Any disruptions in this area could have significant repercussions on global energy prices and security.

Both leaders acknowledged the close ties between India and the UAE, particularly in the realms of trade, energy, and security. The Prime Ministers conversation with Sheikh Mohamed reinforces Indias commitment to safeguarding free navigation in international waters and upholding maritime security in the region.

This discussion also reflects the growing geopolitical challenges in the Middle East, where tensions occasionally escalate, impacting international shipping routes and energy supplies. As such, continued dialogue between countries involved in regional stability and security remains crucial.
