Air Indias Vancouver Flight Returns After U-Turn Over China Following 7-Hour Journey

Air Indias Flight AI 185, which was en route from Vancouver to Delhi, was diverted back to Delhi after entering Chinese airspace. Approximately 7 hours into the flight, the aircraft, an Airbus A350-900, made a U-turn due to operational reasons.

The flight, which took off from Vancouver International Airport, was scheduled to cover a distance of around 7,300 kilometers and typically has a flight duration of about 14 hours to reach its destination. The decision to return was made after the pilot consulted with Air Traffic Control and assessed safe operational protocols.

The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers were reported to be unharmed.

Air India has not provided specific details regarding the cause of the diversion but mentioned that it followed standard airline procedures to ensure the safety and comfort of its passengers. Further updates on passenger re-accommodation or compensations are expected to be communicated by the airline.

This incident occurs against the backdrop of heightened scrutiny over air travel routes in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly due to geopolitical tensions. Air India has a robust safety protocol in place and regularly reviews its flight operations to adapt to dynamic airspace restrictions.
