Parade Ground in Fort Kochi Faces Challenges Due to Years of Neglect
The practice ground in West Kochi, which received significant upgrades ahead of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2017, has reportedly suffered from a lack of maintenance in the years since. This facility, one of the few remaining open spaces for sports enthusiasts in the area, was intended to serve as a key resource for local athletes and sports programs.
The upgrades made prior to the tournament included enhancements to the playing surface and infrastructure aimed at accommodating international standards. However, community members have expressed concern over the current condition of the turf, citing weeds and uneven surfaces that may discourage regular use. Local sports organizations and residents are now advocating for renewed investment in the maintenance and upkeep of this facility to ensure it remains a viable option for training and recreational activities, supporting the development of future sports talent in the region.
