Bangalore Rose Onion Farmers Face Export Disruptions; MP Requests Immediate Assistance
In a recent communication addressed to Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Sudhakar, the Member of Parliament for Chickballapur, has urged the central government to implement immediate market support measures to assist farmers. He has specifically requested procurement interventions aimed at preventing distress sales and stabilizing market prices for agricultural products.
Sudhakars call comes amid ongoing concerns about fluctuating prices and the economic challenges faced by farmers, particularly in the context of seasonal harvests. He emphasized the importance of governmental support to ensure fair compensation for farmers and to safeguard their livelihoods.
The letter highlights the critical role that timely procurement can play in mitigating the adverse effects of market volatility. Such measures may include direct purchases of produce at minimum support prices (MSP), which play a significant role in enhancing farmers income stability.
As agricultural markets continue to experience disparities, the intervention by the Centre may prove essential in providing the support needed for the agricultural sector, especially in regions heavily reliant on crop production.
