Hyundai Prepares for Mass-Market Electric Vehicle Launch
Hyundai Motor India is set to enhance its electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem by expanding its charging infrastructure and increasing the localization of components. The company is poised to introduce its first mass-market electric SUV within the current fiscal year, aiming to cater to the affordable segment of the EV market, specifically targeting vehicles priced under Rs 15 lakh.
Historically, Hyundai has concentrated on premium electric vehicle offerings in India, but this strategic shift reflects the growing demand for more accessible EV options among consumers. The introduction of this new SUV aligns with the upcoming implementation of the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE III) emission standards, which aim to promote fuel efficiency and reduce vehicle emissions in the country.
In addition to the new SUV launch, this initiative is expected to contribute to the development of a robust EV infrastructure in India, addressing the critical need for charging stations as EV adoption increases. Hyundais efforts to localize components are also likely to support the Indian governments Make in India initiative, thereby boosting local manufacturing and fostering economic growth.
