Mobile Production-Linked Incentive scheme generates ₹25,000 crore in direct taxes and supports 1.2 million jobs, according to the Minister.

The Mobile Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has proven to be a significant contributor to Indias economy, generating approximately ₹25,000 crore in direct tax revenue and creating around 1.2 million jobs. This information was shared by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, during a recent event.

Vaishnaw highlighted the success of the PLI scheme, which was launched to boost domestic manufacturing in the electronics sector, particularly in mobile phone production. The initiative aims to encourage companies to increase their production capabilities in India, thereby reducing reliance on imports and enhancing the countrys self-sufficiency in technology.

The minister noted that the scheme has attracted substantial investment from both domestic and international companies, which has played a crucial role in the growth of the electronics manufacturing sector. The PLI scheme is designed to incentivize manufacturers by offering financial benefits based on their production levels, which has led to a surge in mobile phone manufacturing within the country.

In addition to the economic benefits, Vaishnaw emphasized the positive impact on employment, stating that the scheme has provided jobs to approximately 12 lakh individuals. This job creation is vital for the Indian economy, especially in the context of the ongoing recovery from the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government has expressed its commitment to further enhancing the PLI scheme and expanding it to other sectors, aiming to replicate the success seen in mobile manufacturing across various industries. This approach is expected to foster innovation, increase exports, and strengthen Indias position as a global manufacturing hub.

Overall, the Mobile PLI scheme has emerged as a key driver of economic growth in India, contributing significantly to tax revenues and employment while promoting the development of a robust electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The government remains optimistic about the future of this initiative and its potential to transform the landscape of manufacturing in the country.
