Mission Khapli Aims to Improve Prices for Farmers of Health-Conscious Emmer Wheat

In a collective effort to improve pricing for Emmer wheat, farmers from both Karnataka and Maharashtra, regions flanking the Krishna River, have organized to advocate for better market conditions. Emmer wheat, an ancient grain known for its nutritional benefits, has traditionally served as a subsistence crop for local farmers.

The initiative comes as farmers face fluctuating market prices and rising production costs, prompting them to unite for greater bargaining power. By forming cooperatives and engaging with agricultural organizations, these farmers aim to negotiate fairer payment terms and establish sustainable practices for cultivating Emmer wheat.

Emmer wheat, recognized for its resilience in arid conditions and rich in protein and fiber, has gained renewed interest in recent years due to the growing demand for healthier grain options. As the agricultural landscape evolves, these farmers’ collaboration could significantly impact the local economy and food security in the region.
