India and IOM Explore Opportunities to Enhance and Diversify Regular Migration Pathways
During recent discussions, participants highlighted the importance of expanding and diversifying regular migration pathways. Kirti Vardhan Singh emphasized Indias proactive involvement in the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) and activities related to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) within the country.
The GCM, adopted by the United Nations in 2018, outlines a framework aimed at enhancing international cooperation on migration management, ensuring the rights of migrants, and promoting safe and regular migration. Singhs remarks underscore Indias commitment to aligning its migration policies with these international goals.
India has been actively working on initiatives to facilitate legal migration while addressing concerns about irregular migration. The country is also focusing on improving conditions for migrant workers and ensuring their safety and rights in accordance with international standards. Further developments in these areas are expected as India seeks to strengthen its position in global migration governance.
