CM Vijay Urges Modi to Eliminate Cotton Import Duty to Secure Supply

The textile industry is currently grappling with significant challenges due to a sharp rise in cotton prices, which has subsequently led to an increase in yarn prices. Industry expert Mr. Vijay attributed this trend primarily to a decrease in cotton production combined with heightened trading activity within the country.

Over recent months, several factors have contributed to the decline in cotton supply, including adverse weather conditions and a decrease in planting acreage. Additionally, rising global demand for cotton, fueled by the recovering apparel market post-pandemic, has further exacerbated the situation.

As a result, manufacturers are facing pressure to adjust their pricing strategies, which may impact the overall cost of textiles. Stakeholders in the industry are advocating for measures to stabilize production and supply chains, in order to mitigate the impact of these rising costs on consumers and businesses alike.
