Greater Cochin Development Authority Faces Legal Challenge to Land Pooling Initiative

Following the notification of the 2026 Assembly elections, the Advocate General has provided a legal opinion regarding land pooling for the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA). The opinion states that the GCDA should only proceed with land pooling initiatives after officially notifying the inclusion of the Kunnathunadu and Kizhakkambalam panchayats within its jurisdiction.

The GCDA has identified approximately 300 acres of land in these panchayats that is intended for the third-phase expansion of Infopark, a technology park designed to promote information technology and related industries in the region. Infopark has been pivotal in creating job opportunities and boosting the local economy since its establishment.

Including Kunnathunadu and Kizhakkambalam in the GCDAs operational framework is expected to enhance regional development and align infrastructure improvements with the growing demand for space in the tech park. This legal guidance may affect the timeline for the expansion project, emphasizing the importance of legal compliance in urban development initiatives.
