Suvendu Claims 3 Million Beneficiaries of TMCs Direct Cash Transfer Scheme for Women May Be Ineligible

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that applicants under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those who have filed appeals before the State Implementation Report (SIR)-linked tribunal regarding their eligibility for inclusion in the voter list will be eligible for the states Annapurna Bhandar scheme.

The Annapurna Bhandar scheme is designed to provide subsidized food grains to eligible beneficiaries, aiming to assist those in need and improve food security in the region. The initiative underscores the governments commitment to supporting residents, particularly in the context of ongoing discussions surrounding citizenship and voter eligibility.

The CAA, enacted in December 2019, aims to provide a pathway to citizenship for non-Muslim persecuted minorities from neighboring countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. The SIR tribunal serves as a forum for individuals contesting their citizenship status, offering a legal channel for appeals.

This announcement is part of West Bengals broader welfare efforts, as the state government seeks to address socio-economic challenges faced by various communities.
