Government Introduces Standardized Framework for District GDP Estimates Using 2022-23 Base Year
The Ministry of Statistics has announced the establishment of a standardized framework for estimating district-level economic output, using the revised base year of 2022-23. This initiative is intended to improve the consistency and comparability of economic data across all states and Union Territories of India.
The new guidelines are designed based on extensive feedback from various stakeholders, ensuring that they reflect a comprehensive approach to economic measurement. Key components of the framework include standardized definitions, data sources, and methodologies for calculating Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP), Net District Domestic Product (NDDP), and per capita income.
This uniform framework is expected to facilitate more accurate assessments of economic performance and development at the district level, thereby aiding policymakers in making informed decisions. Additionally, it will allow for better tracking of regional economic disparities and help in resource allocation at both state and central government levels. The implementation of this framework is anticipated to contribute significantly to the formulation of more targeted economic policies aimed at fostering balanced growth across the country.
