₹146.89 Crore Allocated for Operation of Seven Tier-II Airports in Karnataka Under UDAN Scheme

Karnatakas government has proposed an extension of the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme from three years to five years to enhance the operational viability of district airports within the state. This proposal was presented to the Union Civil Aviation Minister as part of ongoing efforts to improve connectivity and promote regional air travel.

The UDAN scheme, launched in 2017, aims to make air travel affordable and widespread in smaller towns and regions, thereby fostering economic growth and tourism. By extending the subsidy period for airlines operating under this scheme, Karnataka officials believe it could provide airlines with more stability and encourage them to maintain services to underserved regions.

The state has seen significant growth in its aviation sector, with several newly established routes connecting remote areas to major urban centers, enhancing local economies and job opportunities. If the proposal is approved, it could strengthen Karnatakas push for increased regional air connectivity and economic development.
