Monsoon Update: Orange Alert Issued for Mumbai Following Heavy Overnight Rain and Waterlogging in Various Areas
The southwest monsoon officially arrived in Mumbai on June 23, marking a delay of approximately 13 days beyond the usual onset date for the region. Typically, the monsoon season begins in mid-June, bringing much-needed rainfall to the city and surrounding areas, which are heavily reliant on the monsoon for agricultural activities and water supply.
The delayed onset has raised concerns among local farmers and officials, as the timing and volume of rainfall can significantly impact crop yields and water reservoirs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously forecasted the arrival of the monsoon, and continuous monitoring will now be conducted to assess the rainfall pattern and its implications.
As the season progresses, residents are advised to remain vigilant about potential flooding and other weather-related challenges that may arise, particularly in low-lying areas of the city. The southwest monsoon typically lasts until September, with the peak rainfall usually occurring in July and August.
