“Train Services between Mumbai and Pune Halted Due to Landslides in Karjat-Lonavala Area”

Mumbai-Pune Train Services Suspended Due to Landslides in Karjat-Lonavala Section

Train services between Mumbai and Pune have been temporarily halted due to landslides in the Karjat-Lonavala area, exacerbated by heavy monsoon rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the region, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures.

In addition to train service disruptions, waterlogging has been reported in various parts of Pune, leading to significant traffic delays and complicating daily commutes. Two landslides have occurred in the vicinity, affecting local infrastructure and raising concerns about public safety.

As a response, the Pune district administration declared July 6 as a school holiday, aiming to keep children safe during the inclement weather. The forest department has also issued warnings for tourists intending to visit popular destinations such as Lonavala, Khandala, and Rajgad, advising against traveling to areas susceptible to landslides.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway has seen traffic diversions as a result of these weather conditions, with authorities urging commuters to seek alternative routes. The extreme weather underscores the importance of adherence to environmental safety guidelines, especially during the monsoon season when such events are more prevalent.

Travelers are encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and to exercise caution when traveling through affected areas.
