PM States Visit to Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand Will Reinforce Indias Act East Policy

During a recent press briefing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that his upcoming visits to Indonesia and Australia, situated in the Eastern and Southern Indian Ocean respectively, followed by a trip to New Zealand, aim to bolster Indias Act East Policy. This policy, initiated to enhance India’s engagements with countries in East and Southeast Asia, seeks to promote economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and strategic partnerships within the region.

The Prime Minister’s engagements are part of India’s broader international strategy to strengthen ties with nations across the Indo-Pacific region, which is of significant geopolitical importance. Modis itinerary reflects Indias commitment to deepening trade relations and fostering regional security, especially in the context of collective efforts to ensure a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

Indonesia is one of Indias key partners in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), while Australia is an important ally in trade and defense partnerships. New Zealand, with its growing bilateral relations with India, is also seen as a strategic partner in the region. The visits are expected to cover various topics, including trade, investment opportunities, climate change, and maritime security.
