LPG Imports Increase by 145%: India Plans to Double Purchases from the US to Reduce Dependence on Gulf Supplies

India has significantly increased its energy imports from the United States, particularly in the wake of the ongoing conflict in West Asia. This shift has not only provided India with essential energy resources but has also contributed to a reduction in the trade imbalance between the two nations.

In addition to sourcing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the US, India has diversified its imports by procuring LPG from other countries such as Argentina, Nigeria, and Malaysia. According to data from Kpler, Indias LPG imports from the United States have seen a marked increase following the onset of the US-Iran war. Although there was a slight decrease in imports in April, the volumes have consistently risen in the subsequent months.

This trend underscores Indias strategic efforts to enhance its energy security and reduce dependence on any single supplier. As India continues to bolster its energy portfolio, the nations relationship with the US is expected to grow, particularly in the energy sector, amid the evolving geopolitical landscape.
