NCTE Issues Advisory for ITEP Admissions for 2026-27; Eligibility Restricted to NCET 2026 Candidates
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has issued a new directive stipulating that all admissions for the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) for the 2026-27 academic year must be conducted solely through the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) 2026. The results for the NCET 2026 were announced on June 4, 2026.
The NCTE has emphasized the importance of adhering to this guideline to ensure a standardized admission process across educational institutions. It also warned that any admissions carried out outside the parameters set by NCTE could be subject to penalties, including potential sanctions against the institutions involved.
The ITEP is designed to integrate teacher training with a bachelor’s degree, enhancing the preparedness of future educators. With the increasing focus on improving the quality of teacher education in India, this move is seen as a step towards standardizing the admission process and maintaining academic integrity within teacher training programs.
