Indias Strategic Reserves Strategy for Crude Oil, LPG, and LNG: An Examination of Energy Security
India is on track to enhance its strategic petroleum reserves, with plans to increase their total capacity to 11.88 million metric tonnes (MMT). This expansion is a significant step towards achieving the countrys objective of maintaining a reserve equivalent to 90 days of oil consumption, a critical measure for energy security.
In collaboration with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), India is also working to establish additional storage capacity for 30 million barrels of crude oil. This partnership not only aims to bolster Indias strategic reserves but also serves to deepen bilateral ties in the energy sector between India and the UAE.
Strategic petroleum reserves are essential for countries to mitigate the impact of oil supply disruptions, ensuring that there are sufficient stocks to meet demand during crises. Indias efforts in this regard are part of a broader initiative to enhance its energy security and resilience against fluctuations in the global oil market.
