MacKenzie Scott Donates $50 Million to Support Native Forward, Allocating Funds for Scholarships and Endowment
The Native Forward Scholars Fund announced plans to utilize a substantial $50 million unrestricted donation from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. This donation, the largest in the organizations 57-year history, will allocate $10 million over the next five years to enhance scholarship opportunities specifically for Native American students.
The remaining $40 million will be invested into a permanent endowment, aiming to provide sustained financial support for years to come. This funding comes at a critical time, as demand for financial assistance among Native scholars has surged, with an average unmet financial need reported at $26,000 per student.
Native Forwards initiative is expected to benefit both current and future generations of Native American students, facilitating access to higher education and addressing the financial barriers that many face. The organization has been dedicated to supporting Native students and promoting educational equity, and this significant donation underscores the commitment to ensuring that these individuals have the resources needed to succeed academically.
