IIT Madras Develops AI Platform Featuring 185,000 Alloy Records for Sustainable Materials Discovery
Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have unveiled an advanced Artificial Intelligence platform designed to facilitate the discovery of sustainable alloys. This innovative platform features an open database that integrates materials data sourced from over 10,000 research papers, encompassing more than 350 distinct properties related to various materials.
The new system houses two comprehensive databases, collectively comprising more than 185,000 structured records of alloys. Notably, the platform synthesizes critical information regarding not only the technical performance of these materials but also evaluates their environmental sustainability, economic viability, and social impact.
This multi-faceted approach has been rigorously tested across several industry sectors, including automotive, aerospace, energy, and marine applications, positioning it as a significant advancement in the quest for sustainable materials. The development aligns with global trends towards sustainable engineering practices and further emphasizes the role of AI in enhancing material science research and innovation.
