Government to Prioritize Streamlining Processes to Enhance Foreign Direct Investment

Union Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the Indian governments commitment to fostering an investment model that addresses the entire value chain, rather than focusing solely on large corporations. This initiative aims to promote downstream indigenization in various sectors.

In the paints industry, for example, the minister highlighted the significant importation of titanium dioxide, a crucial raw material, which amounts to approximately $1 billion annually. The government is actively working to encourage domestic production of titanium dioxide to reduce dependence on foreign imports and support local manufacturing. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance self-sufficiency in critical industries while also promoting economic growth and sustainability within the country.

As part of its efforts, the government is likely to introduce incentives and policy measures aimed at attracting investments in the manufacturing sector, encouraging innovation and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are integral to the value chain.
