Indian Railways to introduce indigenous 280 km/h bullet trains by early 2027.
India is on track to launch its first bullet train service by 2027, with the Surat–Bilimora segment of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project anticipated to commence operations in August of that year.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, often referred to as the bullet train project, aims to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities and enhance connectivity. This ambitious project is being implemented with the assistance of Japan, which has provided funding and expertise through its Shinkansen technology.
Once completed, the bullet train is expected to cover the distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in approximately 2 to 3 hours, a substantial reduction compared to the current travel time of around 7 to 8 hours by conventional trains. The project is not only expected to boost economic growth in the region but also to create numerous job opportunities during and after its construction.
As the project progresses, further updates are anticipated regarding other sections of the corridor, as well as the overall schedule and operational plans leading up to its official launch.
